Q: How long have you been a DMCC Board member?

A: Since January 2011

Q: Why did you decide to become a DMCC Board member?

A: I wanted to become better informed about the policies and events happening in our public lands.  I also wanted the opportunity to be involved in some of these policy decisions.  Since I am a high school science teacher that was new to the area  I also felt that this position could help me become better informed about the resources available to my students.

Q: What is the biggest challenge for DMCC?

A: I feel that DMCC does a wonderful job with management of the public lands, education outreach, and public awareness.  I think the biggest challenge is getting the youth to slow down and enjoy the precious natural resouces that are available to them.

Q: How has volunteering for DMCC changed your thinking?

A: I have a better understanding  of the policies and challenges that the DMCC has had to tackle.

Q: What is your favorite outdoor activity?

A: Taking walks with my dog.

Q: How long have you been a DMCC Board member?

A: Member of DMCC since February of 2011.

Q: Why did you decide to become a DMCC Board member?

A: DMCC is a good fit for me for a number of reasons. I am a life long resident of Des Moines county, I grew up in an agricultural community spending many hours on my grandfather’s farm, and I have always had an appreciation for the natural environment and spending time outdoors.

Q: What is the biggest challenge for DMCC?

A: In this sluggish economy the financial concerns of any organization can be challenging. Using our funds wisely to maintain our current assets while continuing to explore options for new opportunities is an important aspect of DMCCB. Our primary concerns for future plans must consider the needs of our residents and wise use of our natural resources. Our biggest challenge is to continue to serve our diverse population with a variety of outstanding resources at a reasonable cost.

Q: How has volunteering for DMCC changed your thinking?

A: Even though the county seems like a relatively small area, being involved in an organization that serves the entire county highlights the diversity of our individuals. I make a conscious effort to be aware of this diversity and consider the benefits to all stakeholders when making decisions.

Q: What is your favorite outdoor activity?

A: I enjoy many outdoor activities from fishing with my husband at Big Hollow, working on our small prairie restoration, watching birds at the feeder, and walking with my dogs in the timber. I pick one as a favorite, however, it is spending an afternoon or evening sitting on the deck and grilling out with friends and family. Iowa is such a beautiful state.

Q: What is your favorite outdoor activity?

A: Just being outside and enjoying the various activities Mother Nature has to offer. Especially hunting waterfowl.
