Classes are held at Starr's Cave Nature Center; no-preregistration required. $25.00 individual or $30.0 family memberships.

Spring Public Programs

Pre-registration is not required except as noted. Fees are charged per person, to help offset the cost of program supplies. All programs can be made fully accessible for the disabled; please call (319)753-5808 so that we can accommodate your special needs or to register for a program.

Parent-Tot Program
Saturday, April 10, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Starr’s Cave Park & Preserve , For ages 2-6 with parent accompaniment. Cost: $3 (please note price change). Registration required. Celebrate nature with your tot! Bring your own picnic lunch, then join a naturalist for a honeybee program.

Critter Catch

Come catch critters in the creek! We’ll provide the nets and help identify the critters you catch!

Spring Concerts

All concerts are held at Starr’s Cave Nature Center with doors opening at 7 p.m. and concerts beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $2 for youth 18 and under. Refreshments will be served at intermission.

Dennis Stroughmatt et L’ Esprit Creole
March 19th

Dennis Stroughmatt’s journey into the roots of Cajun and French Creole music, stories, and language began in the small isolated communities around Sainte Genevieve, Missouri. There he learned from diverse master fiddlers a blend of old style French roots music with infusions of Celtic bowing and Metis rhythms. Today Dennis is a keeper of traditions in the old styles of both upper and lower Louisiana, a Creole fiddler, accordionist, speaker, historian, and foremost musician.

The Mayflies
April 16

In infinite ways, The Mayflies jump and race, flow and sway. They never stand still and although their music is unquestionably Americana, a distinctly Midwestern mix of blues and country guitar, folk and rock lyrics, fiddle and banjo. The Mayflies are also a firm bridge to that rabid universe of live music, that headbobbing, crowd shouting, young and wild world of jam and jazz.

Gayla Drake Paul
May 7th

Gayla Drake Paul has been playing and writing guitar music for over a quarter of a century. One of a tiny handful of guitarists to master both finger style and flat picking guitar techniques in multiple genres and tunings, she is rarer still for her remarkable singing voice, prolific songwriting and compositional skills. Paul has released 15 albums, her newest, released in 2008 is entitled Pour Me.
